  Huzhou University is located in Huzhou City, a nationally recognized historical and cultural city in Zhejiang Province, the birthplace of the Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets philosophy, as well as an important regional center of the Yangtze River Delta for its core location in this area.

  The history of Huzhou University dates back to 1916 with the establishment of the Qiantang Dao No. 3 Joint County Normal School. In 1958, the university began offering higher education, and in 1994 it started enrolling undergraduate students. In 1999, the former Huzhou Normal Junior College, Huzhou Normal School, and Huzhou Institute for Teacher’s Advanced Studies were merged to form Huzhou University, and in 2000, the former Huzhou Medical School was incorporated. The university began independently enrolling postgraduate students in 2012, was approved as a master's degree conferring institution in 2018, and in 2021, its independent college—Qiuzhen College—was restructured into a public undergraduate institution, now known as Huzhou College.

  Huzhou University has been awarded numerous national honors, including the National Civilized Unit, National Model Site for Learning from Comrade Lei Feng, and National Advanced Collective for Supporting People with Disabilities. It is also one of the first-batch pilot universities under the Ministry of Education's Excellent Doctor and Excellent Talents in Agriculture and Forestry training programs. Additionally, it has been recognized as a National Language and Culture Promotion Base, an Inheriting Base for Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture (Silk), and a Zhejiang Province Pilot Demonstration University for Applied Construction. The university also leads the Yangtze River Delta Forestry Innovation Alliance for Common Prosperity under the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.

  On February 6, 2006, during his tenure in Zhejiang Province, Comrade Xi Jinping visited Huzhou University for inspection and guidance, expressing the hope that the university would adapt to local conditions, highlight its distinctive features, and better serve the economic and social development of the region. Over the years, the university has earnestly implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, fully serving the implementation of national strategies and the advancement of regional economic and social development. Through continuous promotion of connotative and distinctive development, it has grown into a comprehensive university with a fine tradition in teacher education and a prominent application-oriented character.

  As a comprehensive university with a strong tradition in teacher education and a distinctive application-oriented character, Huzhou University offers a broad array of disciplines spanning 11 academic categories: education, engineering, agriculture, medicine, science, literature, economics, arts, law, management, and history. It comprises 14 secondary colleges and institutes

(including Anding College/Innovation and Entrepreneurship College, School of Economics and Management, School of Marxism, School of Education, School of Physical Education, School of Humanities, School of Foreign Languages, School of Art, School of Music, School of Science, School of Information Engineering, School of Engineering, School of Life Sciences, and School of Medicine and Nursing), 9 affiliated hospitals, 2 clinical medical schools and 12 affiliated schools(one directly affiliated hospital and one directly affiliated secondary school).

  The campus covers an area of approximately 1,600 mu (about 106.7 hectares), with a library collection of over 1.8 million printed volumes. The university enrolls students from 29 provinces across China, with more than 17,000 full-time students, including over 2,600 postgraduates. The university employs more than 1,500 faculty and staff, including over 500 with senior professional titles. has 17 national-level high-caliber talents, including a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Distinguished Professors of the Ministry of Education’s Changjiang Scholars Program, recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, experts selected for the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, members of the National Hundreds, Thousands and Ten-Thousands Talents Project, and National Teaching Masters. At the provincial level, there are 86 high-level talents, including those from the Qianjiang Scholars Program and the Zhejiang Ten Thousand Talents Program.Six disciplines at Huzhou University—mathematics, clinical medicine, engineering, chemistry, materials science, and computer science—have entered the top 1% globally according to ESI (Essential Science Indicators). The university offers 23 master's degree programs and 17 provincial and municipal key disciplines. Of its 52 undergraduate programs, 2 are national specialty programs, 3 are national first-class undergraduate program development sites, and 1 is a pilot site for the Ministry of Education's comprehensive reform in majors. Additionally, it hosts 12 provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs and 19 provincial key or featured programs. It also participates in the Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program, Excellent Talents in Agriculture and Forestry Reform Pilot Program, and several projects under the Ministry of Education's initiatives for New Engineering and New Agriculture.The university has built 17 provincial and ministerial-level research and innovation platforms, including a National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory. It has received 11 national teaching achievement awards and 33 provincial teaching achievement awards (including a top-prize, 11 first-class prizes and 21 second-class prizes). It has led four projects honored with Outstanding Achievement Awards in Humanities and Social Sciences by the Ministry of Education and has received top prizes in natural science, scientific and technological progress, and philosophy and social sciences at the provincial level. In total, it has garnered 95 provincial or ministerial-level research achievement awards.

  Actively responding to the Belt and Road Initiative, Huzhou University has established a Confucius Institute at Azerbaijan University of Languages and jointly built a Cross-Cultural Research Center with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It has developed close partnerships with over 70 institutions and universities in more than 20 countries and regions. Currently, students from 47 countries, including the United States, Russia, Japan, Morocco, Ghana, and Bangladesh, are studying at the university.
