As the Year of Bingwu begins with renewed vitality, and as the University carries forward its 110-year legacy, Huzhou Normal University held its unveiling ceremony on the morning of April 16, marking the official completion of the renaming of Huzhou University as Huzhou Normal University.

　　Chen Chunlei, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, read out the Letter from the Ministry of Education Approving the Renaming of Huzhou University as Huzhou Normal University. Chen Hao, Secretary of the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee, delivered an address. Chen Xu and Hu Shimin, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Zheng Jinyang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Bian Ji’an, Head of the Sixth Inspection Team of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee; and Huzhou municipal leaders Lian Kunming, Sun Xianlong, Wu Zhiyong, Shen Zhongping and Zhu Ling attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Sheng Kuang, President of the University.

　　Universities and institutions at home and abroad, including Zhejiang University, Fudan University, the University of Science and Technology of China, Westlake University, Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang Normal University and Azerbaijan University of Languages, sent congratulatory letters.

　　On behalf of the four leading bodies of Huzhou, Chen Hao expressed heartfelt gratitude to leaders at all levels, including those from the Organization Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, as well as to entrepreneurs and people from all sectors of society who have supported education. He also extended warm congratulations to the faculty, staff, students and alumni of Huzhou Normal University. He noted that throughout the University’s development, the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee and the Huzhou Municipal People’s Government have always stood together with the University and moved forward hand in hand, carrying through one blueprint to the end and working persistently from one term to the next, finally ushering in this long-awaited moment. At present, Huzhou is thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s “4+1” important requirements and fully carrying out the “132” overall work plan of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, forging ahead toward the goals of basically building itself into a model city of ecological civilization, basically forming a green model of common prosperity, and taking the lead in presenting a city-level vision of basic socialist modernization. He expressed the hope that the University would shoulder its political mission of advancing with gratitude and determination, uphold the profound meaning of its motto, “Understanding the Truth and Learning for Practice,” follow the path of connotative development, deepen its commitment to serving local development, and join hands in writing a splendid chapter of shared endeavor. He also encouraged the University to carry forward the Huzhou Normal spirit of “hard work, self-improvement, inclusiveness, innovation, broad learning and earnest practice,” and to build itself at an early date into Huzhou Normal University with notable influence, quality and standing in China.

　　Guo Meiyang, a 1999 alumna, National Outstanding Teacher, Special-Grade Teacher of Zhejiang Province, and deputy to the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, spoke on behalf of the alumni. She said that her years of study at Huzhou Normal University laid a solid foundation for her later career in education. Over more than two decades as a teacher, she has always kept in mind the earnest teachings of her alma mater and practiced the spirit of the University motto, “Understanding the Truth and Learning for Practice.” Every step of her growth, she said, has been inseparable from the nourishment and cultivation of her alma mater and bears the imprint of its spirit. She stated that alumni will always be members of the Huzhou Normal University community, closely bound to and sharing weal and woe with their alma mater. They will always care for and remain grateful to the University, integrate the Huzhou Normal spirit into their lives, strive forward in their respective posts, work diligently and earnestly, and bring honor to their alma mater and its emblem through outstanding achievements.

　　Xu Huixia, Secretary of the University Party Committee, delivered a speech. She paid high tribute and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, the Organization Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education, and the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee and the Huzhou Municipal People’s Government for their long-standing care and support for the University’s development. She also expressed sincere thanks to generations of members of the Huzhou Normal University community, alumni and friends from all sectors of society who have devoted themselves to the University’s development. She said that the development of Huzhou Normal University is a history of striving rooted in Huzhou, serving the local community and remaining committed to education. Over the years, the University has remained true to its founding mission of cultivating virtue and nurturing talent, pursued the path of strengthening itself through connotative development, and taken deep root in the fertile soil of Huzhou, enabling every Huzhou Normal University student to grow toward the light, allowing development vitality to surge continuously, and keeping the University and the city united and closely connected. Standing at a new historical starting point, the University will continue to bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s earnest instructions, focus on “securing doctoral-degree authorization, scaling new heights, and pursuing first-class development,” uphold its teacher-training foundation, strengthen itself through application-oriented development, and advance the shared growth of the University and the city. It will strive to build itself into a high-level normal university with a strong teacher-training foundation, distinctive application-oriented strengths, robust social service capacity and well-developed comprehensive attributes.
