Secretary of Party Committee Xu Huixia, Vice Principal (responsible for daily administrative affairs) Sheng Kuang, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Ding Ganzhen, Vice President Shu Zhiding, and other members of the university leadership visited classrooms to oversee teaching and learning activities.

During this initiative, the university leadership collectively monitored 112 online courses and randomly inspected 27 in-person classes, conducting a thorough assessment of teaching attitudes, course content, instructional methods, classroom organization, and student engagement. Together with students, they attended the “first lecture of the semester.” Observations indicated that classroom teaching was well-structured, with teachers demonstrating a high level of professionalism and students displaying strong engagement, reflecting a positive academic atmosphere.

Following classroom inspections, HU leaders attended relevant courses at their paired colleges and engaged in discussions with college representatives and faculty members. They expressed appreciation for the faculty’s dedication to teaching and gained insight into their lesson preparation. Additionally, they provided suggestions on improving teaching methodologies and enhancing classroom quality.

Vice Principal Shu Zhiding emphasized that classroom instruction is a key component of the new round of undergraduate education and teaching review. The university will continue to enhance faculty teaching capabilities by leveraging faculty teaching competitions, smart course development, and teaching reform initiatives. Moreover, teaching organizations and research centers will be mobilized to explore innovative, student-centered teaching approaches that promote active learning and further improve teaching quality.

Vice President Sheng Kuang acknowledged the strong academic atmosphere and encouraged faculty and students to maintain these high standards in preparation for the upcoming teaching review. He urged HU leaders to remain engaged in teaching activities, actively monitoring classroom instruction. He also stressed the importance of long-term planning in teaching, calling for careful refinement of academic program structures to align with regional industry needs. This includes developing new academic disciplines, phasing out low-quality programs, and modernizing traditional ones to enhance their relevance to societal demands. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of course innovation, advocating for the integration of artificial intelligence in teaching resources to foster the development of smart courses and increase the availability of high-quality educational materials.
This classroom inspection initiative underscores the university’s strong commitment to undergraduate education and its dedication to faculty support, which sets a sound foundation for the new semester’s academic activities. Looking into the future, the university will continue aligning with the standards of the undergraduate education and teaching review, adhering to the principle of “student-centered education”, and promoting the “Four Returns” to strengthen the core role of undergraduate education in talent cultivation. By reinforcing classroom teaching quality monitoring and establishing a systematic classroom inspection mechanism, the university aims to promptly identify and address instructional challenges, ensuring continuous improvement in teaching quality.
