According to the statistical data of the latest issue of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) released by Clarivate in November 2024, two new disciplines at Huzhou University - Computer Science and Materials Science - have entered the global top 1% in ESI rankings. In May, the university’s Chemistry discipline also achieved this milestone. To date, a total of six disciplines of Huzhou university, including Mathematics, Clinical Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and Computer Science, have endowed such honor. Huzhou university now ranks 227th among domestic universities in ESI. Both the number of disciplines in the global top 1% in ESI and the comprehensive ranking of Huzhou university in ESI rank among the top positions among similar universities in the province, laying a solid foundation for the construction of a high-level normal university.

　　The ESI database is divided into 22 disciplinary fields and is a bibliometric analysis tool derived from over 10 million literature records published in more than 12,000 academic journals indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI). It conducts statistics and comparisons on SCI and SSCI papers and their citation situations of all universities and scientific research institutions around the world on a 10-year cycle. Only disciplines ranked in the top 1% globally in terms of citation frequency qualify for the ESI rankings. Meanwhile, universities and scientific research institutions with disciplines in this list are ranked, updated and announced bi-monthly. The ESI database comprehensively measures the scientific research level of countries or regions, the academic reputation of institutions, the academic influence of scientists and the academic level of journals from various aspects through six major indicators, including the number of papers, the citation frequency of papers, the average citation frequency per paper, highly cited papers, hot papers and frontier papers. It has become one of the important evaluation indicator tools widely used in the world today to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions and countries or regions.
